Smautumn is the term we've coined over the last few years to describe that magical time of year where we beging to leave the long days of summer behind us, stepping through the door into the golden days of Autumn.
Nature during smautumn is a captivating blend of summer's vibrant and fertile life, and autumn's early transformations. As we watch the trees slowly donning their autumnal attire, we get to see a landscape that is painted with a unique colour palette as green leaves begin to mingle with hints of gold, auburn, and amber, creating a vivid array of natural colour.
The birds are preparing for migration, filling the last of the summer blue skies with their graceful formations and lively calls. The birds staying at home steal acorns from the old oak and bury them under the soil ready for the winter months. The squirrels scurry, padding their nests and harvesting their own winter fare. Fur coats start to thicken as the hot days of summer recede into memory.
The air lightens and cools, and on the edge of the breeze you can smell the crisp, woody scent of approaching autumn. This transitional period in nature reminds us of the importance and beauty of change, as we marvel in the crossover of our two most beloved seasons.
And best of all, it is a season for us to get excited for the festivities coming over the next few months!
We kick off Smautumn at the beginning of September, with the return of our most beloved ode to Autumn, the Autumn is Calling Pumpkin Wreath Ring! This year, with it comes a NEW little piece of fall magic, the Pumpkin Cradle Moon Ring. We adorn our hands with these tokens of the season, reminding us to stop every once in a while and inhale the magic.
Beginning with the Autumn Equinox, the official first day of Autumn and from here, the nights get darker and longer.
The joy of October creeps around the corner, bringing with it the chance to decorate, an excuse for pumpkin-spice everything, cosy jumpers and blankets, and all the gothic books and horror films we can consume!
Then we head into November, where we gear up for the pre-Christmas sale season. In the UK, we remember remember the fifth of November with fireworks, bonfires, toffee apples and sparklers. Our US friends have their season of Thanksgiving, a time for the fruits of harvest and spending special moments with loved ones.
And finally, the last stretch of Autumn brings us the joy and delight of the run-up to Christmas. Twinkling lights, sparkling Christmas trees, green wreaths adorning your neighbours door, and finding something special to gift someone you love.
