The English Origins of Cat Photography

If you're a cat lover, we know for sure that you are a Cat Photographer Hobbyist too. Not only are they one of the most beautiful creatures ever.. they are endlessly funny. Our little familiars are the perfect Muse!

But cat photography isn't a modern invention. Even as early as the 19th century, when photography was brand new and an extremely expensive hobby, an artist called Harry Pointer was unknowingly becoming the original cat meme inventor.

Pointer's story begins in the bustling lanes of Brighton (South of England for those of you elsewhere in the world!) where he ran a small photographic studio. It was here that he found inspiration in the playful antics and dignified poses of these little furred friends. Armed with his camera and a keen eye for composition, Pointer set out to record the charm and character of the cats he encountered.

What set Pointer apart was his ✨whimsical✨ approach to photography. He didn't just capture cats; he infused his images with humor, drama, and a touch of the surreal. From cats dressed in human attire to elaborate staged scenes, his work showcased a love and respect for the species.

One of his most iconic contributions to the world of photography was the invention of the "carte de visite" (literally meaning visiting card) format for cat portraits. Think of the miniature proofs you used to get from school photos when you were a child, but with your cat! Just imagine having one of these extraordinary, funny portraits of your beloved pet! You'd treasure it forever.

But perhaps Pointer's greatest legacy lies in the continued joy his photographs bring to people around the world. In an age where stress and worry dominates our lives, there's something comforting about spending a moment in the whimsical world of Harry Pointer's cats, don't you think?!

So now we invite you to wear the love of your Feline Familiar right on your hands, every single day! Now available is our Witch Cat Feline Familiar Sterling Silver Wax Seal Ring and a matching Necklace, why not dedicate one of these treasures to your own furred best friend?
