As the days grow shorter and the air becomes crisper, many of us seek comfort in a cosy series. Enter "Good Witch," the Hallmark series that is often overlooked on Autumn watch lists but should become a staple for feel-good autumn viewing. We won't deny it, there are some cringe moments, but for us, that only adds to the escapism we are looking for. This is also an all-around wholesome watch for the entire family.
Here's why this charming show is the perfect companion for your fall evenings.
Aesthetic Appeal
The visual appeal of Good Witch cannot be overstated. The show’s attention to detail in set design, costume and cinematography enhances its cosy, autumnal feel. The warm colour palette combined with the scenic shots of Middleton's landscapes, makes for a visually pleasing experience that complements the season perfectly. Not to mention Cassie's witchy shop, "The Bell, Book & Candle," where our witchy rings would feel right at home.
Seasonal Episodes
"Good Witch" often features seasonal episodes that celebrate the essence of different times of the year, including autumn. These episodes highlight fall traditions such as harvest festivals, Halloween celebrations, and Thanksgiving gatherings.
My personal favourite Good Witch Autumn / Halloween inspired episodes are -
Season 2 Episode 1 “Something Wicked Part 1”
Season 2 Episode 2 “Something Wicked Part 2”
Season 4 Episode 1 “The Halloween Prophecy Part 1”
Season 4 Episode 2 “The Halloween Prophecy Part 2”
An Enchanting Setting
Good Witch is set in the picturesque town of Middleton, a place that seems to be perpetually bathed in the golden hues of autumn. The quaint small-town charm with its tree-lined streets, cosy cafés, and beautiful Victorian houses, creates an idyllic backdrop that instantly makes you feel at home. The setting itself is like a warm hug and we would argue is up there with the small-town feel of Stars Hollow in Gilmore Girls.
Heartwarming Storylines
At the heart of Good Witch is the story of Cassie Nightingale, a kind and mysterious woman with a knack for knowing just what people need. The series combines tales of community, friendship, and love, all infused with a touch of magic. The gentle, uplifting and positive narratives are perfect for those looking for an escape.
Magical Realism
The show incorporates just the right amount of magic to make it intriguing without veering into the outright supernatural. Cassie's subtle magical abilities add a witchy element to the series, keeping you enchanted while maintaining a sense of realism. This blend of the everyday with a sprinkle of magic is particularly resonant during the fall, a season where we are celebrating the celestial and ghostly.
Mother-Daughter Bond
One reason this show resembles Gilmore Girls is the portrayal of a strong mother-daughter bond. Lorelai and Rory of Gilmore Girls share a unique friendship built on mutual respect and humor. Similarly, Cassie and Grace in Good Witch showcase a strong emotional connection and mutual support.
Family-Friendly Entertainment
Hallmark is known for its family-friendly programming, and Good Witch is no exception. It's a show that can be enjoyed by viewers of all ages.
So, grab a blanket, slide on your Pumpkin Jewellery, pour yourself a cup of hot apple cider, and let "Good Witch" transport you to the cosy, magical world of Middleton.
